The course will describe and discuss the technical aspects of NIV to ensure that the procedure is successful. Topics covered include :

  • Acute hypercapnic respiratory failure update
  • Non COPD acute respiratory failure
  • Pitfalls in its use
  • Predicting outcomes in acute NIV
  • Weaning from mechanical ventilation
  • Domiciliary NIV in COPD
  • Trachesotomy in neuromuscular conditions
  • Cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis

We will also have a session on discharge planning for complex patients on home ventilators.
